Carlos Hyde Scouting Report

Where He’ll Excel

  • Incredible Balance/Body Control
  • Added much needed burst as a Senior. Helps him get through the hole
  • True Every down back
  • Understands where blitzes are coming from, very good in pass protection
  • Catches the ball well
  • Has good vision. Notices both play-side holes and hits the cutback

Where He’ll need to Improve

  • As a receiver, won’t create much on his own
  • For 230 lb back, isn’t a true “power” back. Could break more tackles
  • More initial burst than actual top end speed. Looks like a 4.6 guy.
  • His patience might be tested in a different scheme. Presses the hole too quickly at times

Hyde grades out to a 7.67, he’s a true 2nd round talent. He can be an every down back, and a work horse. He understands pass protection and offers value as a receiver. His improvement in his burst really helped his stock this year I believe. You still want to see more out of him. For a 230 pound back, he could break more tackles. He already does a good job of getting extra yards, you see the balance he has. If he can run behind his pads more consistent you’re looking at a legit 1,000 yard RB at the next level.
