Charles Sims

Where He’ll Excel

  • Does a good job of catching the ball consistently away from his frame.
  • Quick Feet & Enough wiggle to make defenders miss 1-on-1
  • Good Short Area Burst. Can beat 1st/2nd level defenders to edge
  • Good Vision-Seems to Find the right hole. Bounces when necessary
  • Though he lacks power, usually falls forward for extra yard or two
  • Excellent after the catch. Could line up at WR, that comfortable at the position.

Where He Needs to Improve

  • As well as he catches the ball, might not play on 3rd down due to being poor in pass protection
  • For 214 pound back, not very powerful at all. Doesn’t run behind pads
  • Doesn’t show that “next gear” for speed
  • More of a make you miss RB than power. A lot of finesse, hardly breaks tackles
  • Upright Running Style-Could be exposed to big hits
  • Could show better patience pressing the line of scrimmage

Sims grades out to a 7.49, or an early 3rd round talent. He’s quite the conundrum because he has good vision, but lacks patience. He’s an excellent receiver, but he’s not very good in pass protection. Sims will fall forward for the extra yard, but he’s not powerful and doesn’t run behind his pads. But Sims does have a very good short area burst that will allow him to excel in a zone scheme. He’s a potential mis-match in space, and though he lacks top end speed, he has enough to break off long runs. Sims is a legit 3rd round talent.
